The 10 de der (last-trick bonus)
Updated
The 10 de der is the 10-point bonus awarded to the team that wins the last trick of the deal.
Where do these 10 points come from?
The cards in a deal are worth 152 points in total. You add 10 “de der” points (from dernier, “last”) for winning the final trick, bringing a deal's total to 162 points.
Why it matters
Those 10 points often decide a tight contract. Keeping a master trump or a winning card for the last trick is a real skill, known as “keeping the der.” Forgetting it can sink a contract you thought was won.
Worked example: the last trick that decides a contract
You bid 90 in hearts. Going into the final trick, your team has collected 78 card points. The last trick holds the Ace of spades (11), the Queen of diamonds (3), the 8 of spades and the 7 of clubs (0 each): 14 points in all.
- You win the last trick: 78 + 14 + 10 for the der makes 102 points. The defence has 162 − 102, so 60. Contract made.
- The defence wins it: you stay on 78 and they climb to 84. You are short of your 90 and behind the defence, so the contract fails.
The trick itself only held 14 points, but with the bonus it swings 24. That's why players talk about keeping the last trick: a master trump or an Ace saved for the end is often worth more than its face value.
Special cases worth knowing
- No Trump and All Trump: card values change, but the cards still add up to 152, so the der still brings the deal to 162.
- Belote sits outside the 162: the 20 points for King and Queen of trumps come on top.
- On a capot, the team taking every trick necessarily takes the last one, so the der is included automatically.
A handy counting habit: at the end of a deal, add up the card points, add 10 if your team won the last trick, and check that both sides together make 162. If they don't, someone forgot the der or miscounted a trick.

FAQ
What does “10 de der” mean?
It's a 10-point bonus given to the team that wins the last trick of the deal. “Der” is short for “dernier” (last).
Why is a deal worth 162 points?
The cards are worth 152 points, plus the 10-point last-trick bonus, giving 162 in total.
Does the 10 de der also apply in No Trump and All Trump?
Yes. In both modes the cards still total 152 points and the last trick still earns 10, so every deal is worth 162.
Is the belote part of the 162 points?
No. The 162 points are the cards (152) plus the der (10). The 20 belote points are added on top for the team holding King and Queen of trumps.
